I love reading others blogs and wonder where they get the time to sit and do them. I am not all that good at writing in my journal and maybe that is why I struggle with a blog...... What do I write?

I suppose I could write about our chickens..............

We just bought this year 25 White Pearl Leghorn chickens. They were sent to us as little baby yellow chicks. So cute and they fit in a box the size of a childrens size 5 shoe box. We put them in one of our water troughs (without the water) with heat lamps until they were old enough to be put in their chicken coop that we were building. It ended up being more like a chicken condo as it is probably bigger than it needs to be. We have finished almost everything on the chicken coop except the front siding and the ceiling over the porch. We didn't realize it but with the ceiling over the porch undone the chickens were able to fly (yes, they fly) up into the attic of the chicken coop where the insulation is. Chickens start laying eggs when they are 18-20 weeks old so a couple of weeks ago we were waiting with anticipation for our first eggs and sure enough we found a couple of eggs and everyday we would check the nests in the coop for eggs. We were finding a few every other day but thought with 25 chickens who are supposed to lay 4-5 eggs a week, we should be getting more than that, right? Well yesterday my kids are climbing up in the roof of the porch because they see a chicken up there. To their surprise they hit the jackpot. 15 eggs all up in the insulation of the chicken coop. I guess some of the chickens thought the insulation would make a good nest. We will be closing up that roof today so no more chickens get up there. It was fun though to see the excitment on the kids faces when they found all those chicken eggs!
